Detachment

Detachment

This is the wise way

The water drips

Near the edge of

The broken step-

The snake tongue in

Rhythmic harmony

Bricks break open

Flying like chips.

Smoke rising along

The meadow.

The river scoured

From sticks in the last

Storm.

Paper boats in the river

Remember the monkey

As the bicycle tire folds

Into a rock there is

Fortitude

As all is forgiven.

I place my palms

Up towards

This divine pulse.

How can a thing

Be so wounded

By something

As simple as

As the word-

Yes.

Shattering crystalline

Vases filled with roses

Fall onto the carpet

The blood bubbles on

Your wrist. Petals and glass

Cling to the edges of your

Broken sky

How the cracked

facade threatens to

lay into the old farmhouse

The pigs scatter

The grass flattens under

their cracked hooves

Cascades of frogs cling

to the leaves along

the waterway into

The forgotten tunnel.

The cows swarmed

by flies-their indifference

Maddening

The maple trees hug

Me forever and I

Remember the one thing

As ants whisper their

secrets within the

scent of your smokey breath
